Kappa Phi Chapter, Carrollton-Farmers Branch
Kappa Phi Chapter was organized on January 20, 1979, in Carrollton, Texas. Kappa Phi members include women educators and retired women educators from Carrollton/Farmers Branch and surrounding school districts. Laura Harbin, Chris Little, and Nancy Strickland, three of our charter members, remain chapter members.
McLaughlin/Strickland Elementary School opened in Farmers Branch in the Fall of 2008. It was named in honor of Kappa Phi member, Nancy Strickland. Nancy began her teaching career in Farmers Branch in 1961, and she remained with the district until her retirement in 1988. She was called back by the Carrollton-Farmers Branch superintendent in 1991 to start a GED program, and for the next three years she worked to help students earn their high school diplomas. Nancy was elected to the Board of Trustees of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in 1995, and she served four three-year terms. Instrumental in the creation of the CFB Educational Foundation, she established an endowed teacher grant. Nancy is well-known as a staunch supporter of the Foundation and public education, and Kappa Phi is proud to call her an active charter member.
